Sponge blasting is an abrasive blasting method that uses sponge-like polyurethane granules infused with abrasives to clean and prepare surfaces
. It is a low-dust, low-rebound alternative to traditional sandblasting, making it a safer and more environmentally friendly option. 
How it works
  1. Media preparation: The cleaning medium consists of abrasive particles—such as aluminum oxide embedded within soft, synthetic sponges. The type of abrasive used depends on the surface and the desired outcome, from gentle cleaning to aggressive surface profiling.
  2. Impact and capture: When the sponge granules hit the surface, they flatten out, exposing the abrasive to abrade and clean the surface. As the sponge rebounds, it expands back to its original shape and creates a vacuum that traps the dust and other contaminants.
  3. Recycling: After use, the sponge media can be collected and sent through a recycling unit. This machine separates the clean, reusable media from the trapped debris and waste, allowing it to be used multiple times. 

Sponge Media removes the coating or mill scale fully and absorbs salts and oxides from the substrate & provides clear visibility and reduces the need for dust suppression
