WD1 Weep Drain 1/8″
When operating abrasive blasting equipment, the WD1 Weep Drain 1/8″ (or bleed nipple) on the moisture trap should be left slightly open to allow for continuous drainage of condensed water.
Moisture separators (water traps) are essential components in blasting systems to remove water from the compressed air supply. When air is compressed, it heats up, and as it cools, moisture in the air condenses into liquid water. This water can contaminate the abrasive media, causing blockages, rust on the substrate, and lost production time.

Key practices for the weep drain and moisture control:
  • Continuous Drainage: The most effective method is to leave the manual drain valve slightly cracked open. This ensures that any water collecting in the trap is constantly expelled from the system and prevents it from building up and entering the blast pot.
  • No Significant Pressure Loss: This constant slow draining will not cause a noticeable or significant loss of air pressure during operation.
  • Regular Checks: If you prefer to use the manual drain valve on an intermittent basis, you must check and empty the moisture trap bowl frequently, potentially multiple times a day in a humid environment.
  • Automatic Drains: Some commercial systems are equipped with automatic drain valves for convenience.
  • System Maintenance: In addition to the trap on the blast pot, the main air compressor tank should be drained of water daily.
By correctly managing the moisture trap, you ensure a dry, clean air supply, which is critical for efficient and effective abrasive blasting.
